The Selden College entrance examination is designed as a tool to assess a student's intellectual readiness to enrol in the Selden College liberal arts education. As such it is skills based as opposed to knowledge based. For example, the language aptitude test involves a made-up language and requires a student to translate and compose in that language based on the examples provided. The reading comprehension element of the exam will require a student to read, understand and then answer questions on a variety of texts they have not seen, studied, or prepared. We are looking for students who can read and write well and have the ability to comprehend difficult ideas and concepts within a limited timeframe.
The interview will be a 30-60 mins interview with two members of the Selden College admissions committee. This is designed as a tool to assess a student's suitability (intellectual and personal) to be part of the college community, as well as see how they respond to direct questions and difficulties under criticism. We are looking for students who will not only benefit from a Selden College education, but also those who will contribute to that education while they are here.
